ABB Expands European Switchgear Capacity to Support Data Centers and Industry

ABB has announced a 120% increase in production capacity for its MNS low-voltage switchgear across facilities in Brno, Czech Republic, and Rakovski, Bulgaria. The expansion targets growing demand from data centers and industrial electrification projects.

The company’s February announcement outlined complementary roles for the two locations. Brno is intended to become ABB’s largest MNS switchgear factory in Europe, combining manufacturing with engineering, research, and testing capabilities. Rakovski will provide additional assembly capacity, supported by engineering and project management teams in Poland.

ABB said the investment responds to customers requiring both dependable power distribution and designs tailored to complex installations. Applications include large data centers, conventional industrial facilities, and offshore wind infrastructure.

Its MNS platform uses a modular design, with protection and monitoring capabilities intended to support reliable operation and future expansion.

For the electrical industry, the announcement highlights how demand for digital infrastructure is influencing investment in the equipment that distributes and protects its power supply.
